This is the best way to know the city and learn about the history of the Russian capital. On our way we will visit many places of interest such as one of the largest squares in the world – Red Square – situated next to the walls of the ancient Kremlin, the Mausoleum of Lenin and St. Basil Cathedral of the 16th century. We will make several photo stops; one of them is the world-famous view of the Kremlin from the embankment of St. Sofia. Seven buildings – the towers that were constructed after the Second World War - are the symbols of modern Moscow. One can enjoy the excellent panorama of the towers and the famous Cathedral of Christ the Saviour from the viewing point of Moscow University.

City tour + St. Basil Cathedral 

City tour as described above and visit to St. Basil Cathedral.In 1555-1561 famous Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible ordered two Russian architects Barma and Postnik to build a Cathedral of Intercession (St. Basil Cathedral) on Red Square to commemorate the victory over the khanate of Kazan. After the construction was finished Ivan the Terrible asked the architects if they could build a cathedral that would surpass St. Basil in beauty. After hearing a positive answer he ordered to blind them. In 1588 an annex over the tomb of Basil the fool for Christ was added to the structure. After that the cathedral has been bearing the present name - St. Basil Cathedral.

Metro and Arbat Street (without transport) 

The metro of Moscow is arguably the most beautiful metro in the world. All the stations are different; each has a unique style. Some people say that stations are as beautiful as halls in a palace. As of 2013, the Moscow Metro has 192 stations and its route length is 320.9 km. After a tour of the most beautiful and richly decorated stations we invite you for a walk along Arbat Street. It is a pedestrian street about one kilometer long in the historical centre of Moscow. The Arbat has existed since at least the 15th century, thus laying claim to being one of the oldest surviving streets of the Russian capital.

The Kremlin + cathedrals 

This stronghold is situated on a hill that is 40 meters high.  Originally in the 12th century the Kremlin was made of wood and rebuilt in stone much later. It is surrounded with a 2 km wall with 20 beautiful towers. The presidential residence is situated here. The oldest square in Moscow which is called the Cathedral Square is also in the Kremlin. The Cathedral of the Assumption, Ivan the Great Bell Tower, the Cathedral of Archangel Michael, the Cathedral of the Annunciation and the Church of Twelve Apostles surround this beautiful square. We will visit one of these cathedrals to learn more about the history of the country and admire masterpieces of Russian icon painters. Later on our walk along the Kremlin grounds we will see the famous Tsar Bell, a huge bell that weighs 200 tons and the largest cannon in the world – the Tsar Cannon that weighs 40 tons.

The Kremlin  + The Armoury Chamber

We will the Kremlin grounds (see above) and the Armoury. The Armoury Chamber is located in one of the buildings of the Kremlin. It houses the fascinating collection of jewellery. From the 14th century till the beginning of the XIX century the Armoury Chamber stored the treasures of Moscow tsars. In the beginning it was also a shop and a manufactory that equipped Russian warriors with side arms, firearms and the armours. Today the Armoury exhibits a unique collection: objects of applied art that were presented to Russian tsars by foreign ambassadors, a collection of arms of the 13th – 18th centuries, jewellery of the XII – XIX centuries. One can admire magnificent objects made of gold, silver, precious stones, ivory, porcelain, clothing embroidered with pearls and the famous Easter eggs of Fabergé.

The Kremlin + the Diamond Fund

We will the Kremlin grounds (see above) and the Diamond Fund.In 1967 a fabulous exhibition of the Diamond Fund was opened in the halls of the Armoury Chamber. It showcases a collection of unique objects made of precious stones and metals: the crowns of the tsars richly decorated with diamonds, including giant diamonds such as “Orlov” and “Shakh” and the largest sapphire in the world.

New Maiden (Novodevichy) Convent

This is the second most important architectural ensemble in Moscow after the Kremlin. The walls of the convent are 11 meters high. Within its wall there are many churches including the Church of Our Lady of Smolensk that has the most beautiful alter in Moscow, and the Church of the Transfiguration. There are also several palaces and a beautiful cemetery where many famous artists and scientist are buried; among them are Chekhov, Mayakovsky, Esenin.

Tretiakov Galery 

The history of this museum dates back to 1860 when an entrepreneur Pavel Tretiakov started to buy objects of art for the decoration of halls and rooms of his Moscow house. Every year he bought dozens of new works of art at the exhibitions and in the studios of Russian artists. Very soon in 1872 he had to order to build a separate building next to his house to store the growing collection. The museum was transferred to Moscow in 1892. Today the collection that numbers more than 100.000 pieces can illustrate the development of Russian art from its origins till the 20th century, i.e. from anonymous Russian icons to the paintings signed by Kandinsky and Malevich.

The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts 

 This is the second most important museum of European art in Russia. It was founded in 1912.Its first exhibits were copies of ancient statuary, thought indispensable for the education of art students. In 1924 the Soviet government decided to enrich the collection of the museum by transferring here the finest objects of art from the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg) and from the nationalized private collections. The museum has a very diverse and ample collection that includes objects from antiquity till present times.

Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812
 (French Invasion of Russia during Napoleonic Wars) 

The war of 1812 played a very important role in Russian and European history. In Russian tradition it is called the Patriotic War, in European tradition it is The Napoleon Russian Campaign or French Invasion, this war was part of the Napoleonic Wars. The new museum dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812 was opened in 2012 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the victory of Russian troops over the Napoleon.  Museum's collection  numbers  more  than 2000 exhibits including maps and documents of great value, arms, uniform and everyday  life objects of the soldiers of the Russian and French armies, decorative art items, numismatics collection, works of art (paintings, sculptures,  graphics,  miniatures).  The exposition is dedicated not only to the war of 1812 but also to other Napoleon campaigns as well as  to  the international relations of the Russian Empire and the First Empire and to the personalities of Alexander I and Napoleon  I. The collection of the museum possesses some really unique articles  such  as  the samovar  which  was used by the field marshal Kutuzov, private weapons of Napoleon and the sleigh he used when leaving Russia,  field  kitchen created  by the French for their expedition to Russia...

Museum – Panorama The Battle of Borodino
(French Invasion of Russia during Napoleonic Wars)

On August, 26 1812 The Battle of Borodino took place, it was the major battle in the Patriotic War of 1812 (Napoleon Invasion in Russian Empire). The fighting lasted for 12 hours, around 250,000 troops were involved and at least 70,000 casualties were counted making Borodino the single deadliest day of the Napoleonic Wars. It was the turning point in the war, it cost Napoleon the war and his crown. To commemorate this battle in 1912 the Emperor Nicolas II ordered to construct the museum to house the panorama painting of the battle by Franz Roubaud and other objects of art connected to the battle.

Chambers of the Romanov Boyars in Zaryadie 

Zaryadie is the name given to the historic district of Moscow located between Varvarka street  and Moskva river, the name  means “located behind the market rows”, those market rows were located right at the Kremlin walls. The district exists since XII c, however this name was given to it in XVI c. The camber of the Romanov Boyars is the only survived construction of the huge Romanovs mansion. In the beginning of the XX c. Major part of the buildings in Zaryadie were turned down, only several building along Varvarka street survived, however this small part of the city is truly unique, it can be called the open air museum of the Russian architecture of XVI – XVIII cc. Today the Chambers is the museum of Russian household of ancient times.

Leo Tolstoy in Moscow – Tolstoy’s House in Khamovniki 

Count Leo Tolstoy is one of the most  bright representatives of Russian literature, his talent as writer and philosopher is acknowledge worldwide. Khamovniki is an estate in Moscow, which Tolstoy purchased in 1882. The write spent here 19 winter, in summers he preferred to be in Yasnaya Polyana. In Khamovniki Tolstoy wrote his famous novel “Resurrection”, novellas “The Death of Ivan Ilyich”, “The Kreutzer Sonata”, and short story” Father Sergius”.Since 1921 Khamovniki is a memorial museum and part of the state museum of Leo Tolstoy.

Central Air Force Museum in Monino 

The museum in Monino is the largest aviation museum in Russia and it is one of the most important museums in the world. The territory of the museum is 20 hectares, the collection numbers 170 planes. Besides gliders, helicopters and unusual aircrafts it also exhibits all kinds of aeronautic objects and equipment. The planes and helicopters are exhibited in the open air. Visitors can see a large aviation exhibition that includes both civil and military planes, learn about the history of Russian aviation, about the secret programs of the cold war period and other interesting historical facts.

Kolomenskoe (territory + house of Peter I) 

Kolomenskoye is a former royal estate situated several kilometres to the southeast of Moscow. The first mentioning of the village dates back to the XIV century. The oldest construction is the church of the Ascension that was built in 1532 to celebrate the birth of the heir to the throne and successor of Vasiliy III – the future tsar Ivan the Terrible. The church of the Ascension is one of the first stone churches in Russia that had a pyramid roof. It is part of an ensemble that was built in the XVI century. It includes a standalone bell tower for the church of St. George (XVI century), the church of Our Lady of Kazan, Vodovzvodnaya tower, two stone entrance gates  - these are all constructions of the XVII century. It was here in Kolomenskoe where Peter I was born and spent his childhood. Nowadays Kolomenskoye is a branch of the State Museum of History. A collection of Russian objects of applied art is exhibited here: colourful tiles, wood carvings, forged items, etc. It is an open air museum of Russian wooden architecture. Exhibits for this museum were brought from the most remote parts of Russia.

Abramtsevo 

Near Sergiev Posad, surrounded with parks and birch forests there is a literary and artistic museum of Abramtsevo. This place was an important artistic and theatrical centre of the XIX century. It is one of the few museums that have preserved the style of the epoch. The museum houses paintings by Repin, Serov and Vrubel. In Abramtsevo park there are the Church of Christ the Saviour, the house of Aksakov, and the wooden structures – Terem, the artistic workshop, “a hut on chicken legs“ (an image from Russian folk stories) created by Vasnetsov. All these buildings exhibit unique objects of everyday life of the XVII-XX centuries and handicraft (kitchen utensils, spinning wheels, dolls and others). The first Matreshka doll was born in Abramtsevo in 1890.

Kuskovo

The ensemble of Kuskovo was created according to the tastes and the rules of Russian nobility of the XVII century. Kuskovo used to be called “Summer residence of Count Sheremetev”. It was built for receptions, elegant assemblies, and celebrations. What is special about Kuskovo is that there has never been any radical rebuilding here so the palace and the estate have preserved the original style of the XVIII century. The vast pond, the old palace surrounded with elegant railing, the umbrous alleys of centenary trees and the park pavilions create a singular and enchanting picture. The centre of the architectural composition is the palace that is all made of wood. The interior of these structures gives a clear a detailed picture of the Russian art of the 18th century. Kuskovo is also a museum of ceramics that has a rich collection of porcelain, Delft ware, majolica and artistic glassware of different epochs and countries. The collection numbers 20.000 objects.

Sergiev Posad 

Sergiev Posad, a sanctuary of large historic and artistic importance, is situated at about 70 km to the north of Moscow. It has an interesting collection of excellent monuments of Russian culture created during the period from the XV to the XVII centuries. Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius is situated here. It was founded in 1337 and is often referred to by the foreigners as “the Russian Vatican”. The monastery is the centre of Russian Orthodox Church and one of the residences of the Patriarch of Moscow.  In the central square of the monastery there is a sacred spring that is visited by all the pilgrims who arrive here to see the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh, the saint who founded the monastery. The architectural ensemble of the monastery includes cathedrals, churches, the residence of the patriarch, and other monuments of exceptional artistic value. The Trinity Cathedral is a true masterpiece and an excellent example of early Moscow architecture. It is UNESCO World Heritage Site.
